Description
Effluent Compliance. Environmental Stewardship. Regulatory Mastery.
The Green Drop Certification is the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) primary mechanism for ensuring that wastewater treatment is managed responsibly. Our Green Drop Excellence Suite provides the specialized laboratory data required to monitor treatment efficiency and ensure that your discharge meets the legal requirements of your Water Use License (WUL).
Why This Suite is Essential for WWTW Managers:
-
Incentive-Based Regulation: Aligned with DWS Green Drop criteria to improve your “Wastewater Risk Abatement” score.
-
Environmental Protection: Prevents the contamination of local rivers and groundwater by identifying treatment failures early.
-
Operational Optimization: Uses data to manage sludge health, aeration efficiency, and chemical oxygen demand.
-
Legal Shield: Provides a continuous record of compliance to protect your entity from environmental litigation and fines.
The Green Drop Analysis Profile
This suite focuses on the critical chemical and biological markers of wastewater health:
| Category | Parameters Tested | Why it Matters |
| Organic Loading | COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) | Measures the amount of organic pollution in the effluent. |
| Nutrient Removal | Ammonia (NH3), Nitrates, & Phosphates | Prevents “Eutrophication” (algal blooms) in receiving rivers. |
| Microbial Safety | Faecal Coliforms & E. coli | Confirms the effectiveness of the final disinfection (chlorination/UV) step. |
| Physical Standards | Suspended Solids (SS), pH, & Conductivity | Monitors the physical clarity and salt load of the discharged water. |
| Oxygen Demand | Dissolved Oxygen (DO) | Ensures the effluent won’t suffocate aquatic life in the river. |
| Industrial Traces | Heavy Metals & Phenolic Compounds | Detects illegal industrial dumping into the municipal sewer line. |
The Green Drop Operational Protocol
1. Intake vs. Effluent Monitoring
To achieve Green Drop status, you must prove your plant’s “Percentage Removal” efficiency. We provide dual-point sampling—testing the Raw Influent (incoming sewage) against the Final Effluent (discharged water).
2. Specialized Sludge Analysis
Green Drop audits often require data on sludge stability. We provide laboratory testing for sludge moisture content and mineral composition to assist in your “Sludge Management Plan.”
3. Audit-Ready IRIS Documentation
All results are delivered in a formal, certified format compatible with the Integrated Regulatory Information System (IRIS), making your annual Green Drop audit seamless and data-driven.
Investment in Wastewater Excellence
-
Standard Effluent Analysis: R 37,786.79 (Excl. VAT) per sample point.
-
Recommended Package: R 75,573.58 (Excl. VAT) for a “Full System Efficiency” (Influent vs. Effluent) report.
Note: Consistent monthly monitoring is the only way to secure a Green Drop award. We offer discounted annual contracts for facilities committed to excellence.
