Clean water is a right for everyone!

We offer free water testing to vulnerable and marginalised communities

The Chemistry Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd was founded in January 2020. The core purpose was to provide chemistry solutions for our everyday African challenges in the water, energy and food sectors. One of the biggest problems that has been neglected across Africa is the water quality. There has been an improvement in water available but very little attention has been given to whether the available water is safe to drink. The Chemistry Solutions Company has decided to address this continent-wide mammoth task  by developing affordable water quality testing services  that are accessible to the poor, particularly in marginalised and vulnerable communities. We have coined these services “The Water Warrior Project”.

The objective of The Water Warrior Project is to make water quality testing accessible to all on the African continent and reduce unemployment

  • Free water testing will be provided to individuals who cannot afford it through funding income generated, partners and sponsors.
  • The profits generated will be funnelled back into the business in order to scale up and replicate the project across the African continent.
  • Enhancement of the capacity of poor and vulnerable communities to access clean water using low-cost and affordable technology

Case study of South Africa

In the whole of South Africa, we are not aware of any institution providing free water testing services or affordable testing options that the majority of people can afford. Our services are going to enhance the accessibility of water quality testing services for the whole country.

From the Blue Drop progress report 2022, it is noted that 60% of water supply systems did not achieve microbial water quality compliance and 77% failed to achieve chemical water quality compliance. Also, in the same report, it is noted that only 66% of the water supply systems had adequate microbial monitoring water quality compliance and only 17% met the criteria for adequate chemical monitoring compliance (DWA Blue Drop report 2022; Department of Water & Sanitation). From this, it is very clear that a ‘state of emergency should have been declared due to the high-risk non-compliance poses to South Africans. We have made it our mission to make water quality testing accessible and affordable to every citizen.

We also cannot ignore the reality that one of the biggest challenges facing South Africa is unemployment. In the second quarter of 2022, the official unemployment rate was 33,9%. As of June 2022; 7,7 million young people aged 15-24 years were unemployed.

Our Solution

Both challenges actually present a new opportunity. We are in need of accessible and affordable water quality testing services and we also have a large number of unemployed youth. Through this project, we intend to act as a bridge for unemployed youth into the job market through skills development. Our program will allow the youth to be water warriors, testing water quality, empowering their communities, as well generate an income for themselves.
