The Chemistry Solutions Company (Pty) Ltd was founded in January 2020. The core purpose was to provide chemistry solutions for our everyday African challenges in the water, energy and food sectors. One of the biggest problems that has been neglected across Africa is the water quality. There has been an improvement in water available but very little attention has been given to whether the available water is safe to drink. The Chemistry Solutions Company has decided to address this continent-wide mammoth task by developing affordable water quality testing services that are accessible to the poor, particularly in marginalised and vulnerable communities. We have coined these services “The Water Warrior Project”.
Key Features of The Water Warrior Project:
- Free Water Testing: We provide free water testing to individuals who cannot afford it, funded through our generated income, partnerships, and sponsorships.
- Job Creation: Our project aims to reduce unemployment by providing skills development and job opportunities for young people.
- Community Empowerment: We empower communities by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to access clean water.
- Scalability: We plan to expand our project across the African continent to reach more communities.
The Problem:
- Water Quality Crisis: In South Africa, 60% of water supply systems fail to meet microbial water quality standards, and 77% fail to meet chemical standards.
- Sub-Saharan Africa: In Sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 320 million people lack access to safe drinking water, and over 750 million lack access to basic sanitation.
- South Asia: In South Asia, over 500 million people lack access to safe drinking water, and over 700 million lack access to basic sanitation.
- Unemployment: South Africa faces a significant unemployment rate, particularly among young people.
Our Solution:
- Youth Employment: Our project provides job opportunities for unemployed youth, training them in water quality testing and sanitation practices, empowering them to become “Water Warriors.”
- Community Education: We promote awareness and education on water quality and sanitation issues, enabling communities to make informed decisions and take action.
- Infrastructure Improvement: We support initiatives to improve water and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring that communities have access to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities.
